By the grace of God, the mothers of these children accepted support from the Shield of Roses, and then happily welcomed their babies into the world.

For 30 years we have prayed the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday outside the facility. We reflect on the scene of the cross affirming Christ’s dignity as He silently suffered and died... Babies are being led to their deaths, we try to save them; but if that fails, our prayerful presence is witness to the dignity that others try to strip from them.

With your prayers and financial support, together we have transformed the fear and despair of an unexpected crisis pregnancy into the hope and joy that a baby brings!

This my friends, is why we do what we do! I am continually emotionally taken aback by the outpouring of hope, joy and love that occurs when we heed His voice! All praise, thanks and glory be to you Lord God!

In their own words…

“wow, I can’t thank you enough.  I never knew that there would be anyone to help me.  I would again like to thank you for saving my life from the horrible disaster I would have went through with the abortion.  You are truly an angel :)”  I.

“I’ve been good.  I decided to keep the baby :)  It’s going to be a struggle, but like you said I was chosen by God to be this baby’s Mom.” J.

“Thank you for talking to me, for caring and for saving me from something that I know I would have regretted all my life.  I hope that God keeps you around for a long time doing what you do to help all those women like me who were just scared and dumb.  M.

“Thank you  for helping me to be the man that I needed to be – what was I thinking?.  If you hadn’t talked me into going up there to talk to my wife, I just don’t know… Wow!  We’re having another baby!  Thank you and please, don’t ever stop doing what you do”  A.

“I had prayed all night asking God for a sign that I wasn’t supposed to go through with it and there you were.  You stopped to talk to me, you really cared about me and my baby.  You were the sign I prayed for!”  M.

“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done.  I feel so surreal sitting here going to the doctor with you.  I can’t believe I was about to abort my baby.  God bless you…  A.

No News – Good News

I had met a young woman the first week of June last summer.  She changed her mind that day.  I followed up with her several times afterwards, but we really had not had much communication.  ALL GLORY BE TO GOD!  Here’s the text I received from her last evening:

Mom:   Hey Ana Maria, it’s M.  I don’t know if you still remember me.  Sorry I haven’t called you. How rude of me… I do want to let you know that I am having my baby possibly tomorrow and I thank God for putting you in my life that day and I wish many many blessings for you and your family.  : ) thank you! And God bless you so much!

Me:  Oh my goodness!  Of course I remember you!  I am so happy to hear from you and your wonderful news!  : ) Please let me know if you need anything and keep me posted.  Hugs and blessings, Ana Maria

Mom:   Great!!!!! I’m glad you do! : )  Thank you and I will keep you posted.  Thank you again : )

Me:   You are welcome and thank YOU for being strong and trusting in God!  Again, if you need anything, please let me know.  God bless!

…she wished she had not gone through with the abortion…

Last month on September 13th, I had spent quite a bit of time talking to a woman there on the sidewalk.  She still went in for her appointment.  As she was at the top of the stairs, I tried one last time to reach out to her.  I told her that if she had any hesitation at all about what she was about to do, she should just come back out, that she didn’t have to go through with it.  I also told her t…hat I would continue to pray for her.  She never did come back out that day…

Yesterday, I received a call from her.  She wondered if I remembered talking to her.  Of course I remembered her, I reminded her that I told her that I would pray for her, which I have every day (by name).  Well, she said she had thrown away the brochures I had given her, but she kept the card with my number.  She went on to tell me how she wished she had not gone through with the abortion, how she wished that she had taken my advice and help.  She said that everything fell apart, that her life is worse than ever and that she terribly regrets that day and wished that she could just go back to our talk on the sidewalk.

She also said that she started going back to church.  I have given her information about Project Rachel and will remain in touch with her as long as she likes.
Please continue to pray for, and give support to all the women who are filled with fear and doubt about their pregnancies.  These are the phone calls that really break my heart, but I also try to be optimistic in the Lord and realize that although this baby may not have survived and this Mom was not spared the pain and shattered heart that abortion leaves in its path, I doubt that this Mom will consider this “choice” again.

“…I was chosen by God to be this baby’s Mom…”

How merciful is our Lord!  Last month we had four (4) confirmed turn-arounds and, so far this month, we have had three (3).  Thanks be to God!

One very important thing that I do is to follow up with the Mom later in the day once she has left the facility.  In doing so with one of our Moms, she texted me and said that she was having second thoughts and thinking that maybe she should go ahead with the abortion and she stated her reasons.  We spoke over the phone at great length.  That was a Friday at 3:30 pm.  Needless to say, she was on my mind and in my prayers all that weekend.  I followed up again with her on Monday, just to let her know that I was still there to help her and that I myself, and others were still praying for her.  Well, I didn’t hear back from her and sadly, I feared the worst, but kept praying.  Lo and behold, this is the text I received on the following Wednesday evening (5 long days later!):

“I’ve been good.  I decided to keep the baby : )   It’s going to be a struggle,  but like you said I was chosen by God to be this baby’s Mom.  Can you help me with…”

By offering help, assurance that they are not alone and, possibly most importantly, reminding them that they have already been chosen by God to be the mother of their baby, we are living the call of the Gospel.

All glory be to God!

Our “Baby” is Having a Baby!

“This is a person from your past.” the caller explained.  Not being able to place the voice, I asked them to reveal their identity.  This client had her baby in the mid 80s, and I remembered them distinctly, but we lost touch after several years and their family moved. Mom had gone to clean out her garage, and she found an envelope from us.  She excitedly opened it hoping our phone number would be in the correspondence.  Sure enough, it was!  Mom raced to the kitchen phone and prayed that I would answer the phone.  When I answered, Mom was so excited.  “I have so much to tell you.”   The great news is that the “baby” we saved is now happily married and expecting her first child.  Can you believe that!  This client from the 80s also has four other children after her first baby was saved.  When we get news like this, we get so energized.  All the negativity we experience in front of the abortion center melts away when we hear about our success stories.

Freezing out here, and a Baby is Saved!

Denease walked up to a couple approaching the abortion center.  They seemed a little confused when she started offering them help.  They spoke back and forth in Armenian, and at first we thought they didn’t understand Denease.  That changed quickly when Denease told them they were a beautiful couple, and their child deserved to continue life this Christmas.  The husband fell into his wife’s arms and buried his head in her neck and began to cry.  She, in turn, cradled his head and kissed him.   He strengthened up and started to walk away.  “We are not going to do this!” he said.  We promised them any help they needed, and we exchanged phone numbers.  Dad said they really didn’t need help.  They just felt overwhelmed because they had three other children at home.  As he drove out of the parking lot, he leaned out the window and with a lifted arm and a loud voice, he shouted, “Thank you!  Thank you! Merry Christmas!”

It was so cold this morning at the center (I know this is NOT South Dakota, but it WAS cold), and this save and the warm response we got from this Armenian couple just cheered and warmed all of us.  Blessed Christmas to all of you, and thank you for your continued prayers.
